Love for a Better World: Climate Heroes

The world feels heavy right now. Communities and many of the people we love are hurting.

Lives are being lost to unnecessary wars – ecocide and genocide are prevalent. The climate crisis is increasing the intensity of natural disasters near and far, some which are sweeping up everything in their path. ICE agents are ripping families apart, vilifying working families. Disability rights are being upended, our public lands are being sold, and endangered species are facing obliteration. Meanwhile, many of our nation’s leaders and decision-makers are making unfathomable calls that impact our daily lives and the futures of our young people and children.

We, like many of you, feel it everywhere we go. And yet, even in dark moments, we’re finding the inspiration to keep fighting for the causes we care about, while supporting those who are most vulnerable. We're embracing live music, nature, or talking with friends and family, because we know decompressing and finding joy matters more than ever. 

We are also fueled by the profound acts of solidarity, mobilization, and activism we have witnessed, especially in recent years. The ability to pursue justice for our communities and our planet alongside incredible leaders and advocates gives us hope. As we continue to navigate what feels like a never-ending cycle of bad news and loss, these leaders and advocates remind us that together we will advance a more equitable world for our communities.

We believe love is the most powerful force that will move us forward. This is why our Equitable Comms team is launching the Climate Heroes series. 

Through this new series, our goal is to highlight climate and ocean justice leaders—the advocates who dedicate their lives to protecting communities above and below water. Whether working locally, nationally, or globally, these individuals are changemakers who challenge the status quo and inspire us to love for a better world. 

Each month going forward, we will spotlight a climate hero who is fighting for climate and ocean justice in their own way. All people who inspire and bring us hope. Stay tuned for more!
