Reflections on Solidarity: Power to the People

Protests have been an integral part of American discourse and a necessary instrument for change in our democracy. If ever there was a right time to protest against unlawful powers and reimagine a just society—it's now.
López-Wagner Strategies stands in solidarity with the people of Los Angeles and other Southern California communities, as well as those across the U.S., in condemning the separation of families at the hands of ICE.
Immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers belong here.
The actions being carried out by the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, with the Marines and the soldiers of the National Guard and ICE at the direction of the President are not based on the law and on the contrary- a moral stain on our country’s conscience. Our agency unequivocally rejects a militarized state and related actions intended to oppress, intimidate, and suppress those exercising their First Amendment rights.
The Trump-Vance regime has created a detachment from reality that should not be downplayed. Fabricated national emergencies are not acceptable and denying real dangers in no way helps solve the serious problems that we as a people face collectively every day.
Since Day 1, this administration has been actively violating the U.S. constitution with calculated disregard in order to fuel hate and harm and advance a false narrative of rampant aggression and widespread lawlessness on the part of marginalized communities. The irony is not lost on us that their strategy seeks to bait and harm the very people that this administration detests.
We will always support our communities and the pursuit of liberation especially during this month of Immigrant Heritage, LGBTQ+ Pride, and World Ocean Month celebrations. We practice active mutual aid, community activism, and we protect our neighbors. Moreover, we hold those in positions of power accountable when their actions run afoul.
In the words of the late James Baldwin, as written in No Name in the Street, "If one really wishes to know how justice is administered in a country, one does not question the policeman, the lawyers, the judges, or the protected members of the middle class. One goes to the unprotected — those, precisely, who need the law’s protection the most! — and listens to their testimony. Ask any Mexican, any Puerto Rican, any Black man, any poor person — ask the wretched how they fare in the halls of justice, and then you will know, not whether or not the country is just, but whether or not it has any love for justice, or any concept of it."
Protestar ha sido una parte esencial del debate entre los estadounidenses y un instrumento necesario en nuestra democracia. Si alguna vez ha existido un momento adecuado para protestar contra los poderes ilegítimos y para redefinir lo que es una sociedad justa, es justo ahora.

Las acciones que están llevando a cabo el Departamento de Defensa y Seguridad Nacional, con los Marines y los soldados de la Guardia Nacional y ICE por instrucción del Presidente no están basadas en la ley y, por el contrario, son una mancha moral en la conciencia de nuestro país. Nuestra agencia rechaza de manera categórica un estado militarizado y las acciones relacionadas que pretenden oprimir, intimidar y reprimir a quienes ejercen sus derechos amparados por la Primera Enmienda.
El régimen Trump-Vance ha creado un alejamiento de la realidad que no debe minimizarse. Inventar emergencias nacionales es inaceptable y negar los peligros reales no ayuda en absoluto a resolver los graves problemas a los que, como pueblo, nos enfrentamos colectivamente cada día.
Desde el primer día, esta administración ha estado violando activamente la Constitución de Estados Unidos, con un desprecio calculado, para alimentar el odio y dañar y promover una falsa narrativa de agresión desenfrenada y anarquía generalizada causada por miembros de comunidades marginadas. A nadie se le escapa ver la ironía de que su estrategia consiste en hacer que grupos que esta administración detesta caiga en sus provocaciones y así hacerles daño.
Siempre apoyaremos a nuestras comunidades y la búsqueda de la liberación, especialmente durante este mes de la Herencia de los Inmigrantes, el Orgullo LGBTQ+ y las celebraciones del Mes Mundial del Océano. Practicamos la ayuda mutua activa, el activismo comunitario y protegemos a nuestros vecinos. Además, pedimos una rendición de cuentas a quienes ocupan posiciones de poder cuando sus acciones atentan contra la ley.
En palabras del renombrado autor James Baldwin, tal como están escritas en Sin Nombre en la Calle, "Si uno desea saber realmente cómo se administra la justicia en un país, no interroga a la policía, a los abogados, a los jueces o a los miembros protegidos de la clase media. Uno acude a los desprotegidos –¡aquellos, precisamente, que más necesitan la protección de la ley! – y se escucha su testimonio. Pregunten a cualquier mexicano, a cualquier puertorriqueño, a cualquier negro, a cualquier pobre –pregunten a los desdichados cómo les va en los recintos de justicia, y entonces sabrán, no si el país es justo o no, sino si tiene o no algún aprecio por la justicia, o algún concepto de ella".
